Rounds 11 and 12
Today was the last day of my weekly Taxol treatments – yeah! Now, I will start bi-weekly chemo treatments for 8 weeks, which means only 4 more treatments left before surgery. The next phase will still include Avastin and adds Cytoxan and Adriamycin (also known as the “red devil” for its side effects) . I will also have to go back for a shot of Neulesta the day after each treatment to keep my white blood cell counts up. To date, my blood counts have been really good, so these drugs must be more toxic. Apparently, not all insurance companies pay for nurses to administer the shot of Neulesta, but, luckily, mine does.
I also received some good news from the nurse practitioner that did a breast exam. She can no longer feel the tumor. Now, this is the same nurse practitioner that said my tumor was twice the size (4.5 x 5.0) about a month after being diagnosed. When I questioned her at the time about the size, she reexamined me and changed her mind and said it was about the original size (2.0 x 2.5). So, I question her hand skills and will wait for an MRI to confirm.
