Round 10

I am blogging from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I’m here with my daughter as she visits the University of Alabama law school on their “dime” – they’re paying for our 2-night stay at the Hilton and gas expenses.  Our 9-hour drive was quite an adventure.  Yesterday, we got to the Tallahassee area just as they issued a tornado watch.  The rain was coming down in torrents.  We might as well been driving through a hurricane.  There were flash flood warnings and this was the first time in my 50+ years that I ever saw what a flash flood might look like.   The water building up and rushing along  the side of I-10 was pretty scary looking!  We had to drive about an hour through that storm.   If I had hair, I would probably have about a 100 more gray hairs after that driving experience!

Then, our GPS had us go through the mountains near Tuscaloosa.  Well, as far as I’m concerned we were driving through mountains!  I’m not a fan of heights and we had to drive along this 2-lane road for 60 miles – up and down, curve after curve – with big drop offs on the side at  some points and no guard rails!!

Anyway, round 10 was cancelled due to the Taxol side effects on my hands.  On Friday of last week, my hands were so “sunburned” and swollen I had to call the oncologist’s office and they prescribed my second predinsone dose pack.   The prednisone definitely helps ease the side effects, but when the clinical research nurse saw my hands on Wedensday the skin was still peeling and she said “I can’t imagine what this looked like on Friday.”

But, they did do my blood counts and so far – so good.

Okay!! All sounds well. Be safe on your trip.

  2. Carol Millenson says:

Well, the way you describe your trip, it makes your chemo sound mild by comparison!

So, aside from the side effects on your hands (does not seem to be effecting your keyboard skills), it seems you are still doing quite well with the treatment protocol.

Take good care and enjoy the college field (mountain) trip with your daughter.
