Jimmy V’s Daughter

I was flipping through TV channels last night and happened to see a piece on the Jimmy V Foundation during the Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic.  One of Jimmy’s daughters, Jamie Howard, was speaking about her battle with breast cancer.  She was diagnosed 4 years ago at the age of 33.  I wondered, given her young age and family history, if she was diagnosed with “triple negative”.  I did a search to see if I could find additional information on her battle with breast cancer and found this article.  It doesn’t mention “triple negative”  (although I don’t know how long ago that term was coined), but it does state she did have the BRCA gene mutation, which is one of the populations affected by triple negative breast cancer.

Reading this article makes me even more annoyed at the response I received last week when I asked about getting tested for the BRCA gene mutation that “they’re more concerned about breast cancer on the maternal side.”  Why dismiss the father’s family history?!!

It was good to see that Jamie Howard is a survivor! And, that she is almost near that 5-year milestone.

Off I go to round 4 of chemo.
