The Buzz Cut

Well, my hair started falling out on Friday when I was washing it. By Saturday, I was leaving a trail of hair behind me. So, early Saturday evening, with no hopes of the Gators winning the SEC championship, I asked my husband to shave my head. And, he did a really nice job – no nicks or cuts.

It only took me a few seconds to get used to looking at myself in the mirror  and I don’t see any bald spots yet.  It feels very strange.  It feels soft when I run my hand down my head one way and I get that bristly feeling like “pins and needles” when I run it the other way – it almost like a stinging feeling, which does not feel good.  The major thing I notice is how cold my head feels without any hair.  I borrowed my son’s Chicago Bulls beanie cap to wear.

I tried my wig on.  And, besides it needing a trim it is super itchy.  I’m sure this is normal, but it is going to take some getting used to.  Maybe if I got one of those tight fitting “skull caps”, that you see football players wearing, to wear on my head under my wig it won’t be so itchy.

Well, the skull cap will help your head stay warm! I have one of those heads in my household with my surfer son…

You might decide as other friends have that you can carry off the wigless look. One woman, an assistant principal at a Seminole middle school, lost her hair to treatment. She opted for the hairless look and her students loved it. As it was coming back in (her hair is a very light blond), she was a paddler in a BC survivor dragon boat race and had painted WOW (Warriors on Water) in bright pink.

Whatever you do, it has to be comfortable for you.

    Hey girl,
I am so proud of you!!! I agree with Carol, you should do whatever you are comfortable with, no matter what that is. I can see you creating “the Donna Look”! Maybe try a red scarf, to go along with that red shirt that looks like your 30 year old yellow shirt. LOL. I’m sure your buzz does look cute on you.

Donna, do what’s comfortable for you, I’m sure you can pull off any look, it is only hair and it will grow back. Stay strong my friend.

    Donna,
You have such a distinguished look about you with or without hair. Besides, it’s not what’s on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside.
P.S. What a great idea this was to have a blog!
